JGC Fluor (JFJV) will be resuming tree clearing activities and woody debris management —including open burning—for the LNG Canada Project. These activities were temporarily put on hold earlier this spring/summer due to bird nesting season, which ends August 17.
As part of our environmental mitigation measures for the project, environmental monitors will conduct wildlife sweeps prior to this work taking place to ensure there are no active nests.
Our open burning program may begin as early as the week of August 19, dependent on the venting index that determines when weather conditions are suitable for burning. Burn piles will consist of non-merchantable trees, branches and other natural woody debris from the regulatory approved clearing activities.
Permits and safety plans are in place. All burning will be carefully planned and monitored, including: the timing; size and location of the burn piles, and the venting index. JFJV is in frequent communication with the District of Kitimat and the Kitimat Fire Department regarding all open burning activities.
