Kitimat, B.C. – At 5:30pm (PST) on May 30, 2020, a hydraulic oil spill occurred at the Kitimat River Water Intake (RWI) construction site. 100ml (the equivalent of a ½ cup) of Petrocan Environ hydraulic oil spilled into the Kitimat River. The source of the spill was a hose attached to the man lift.
By 7:20pm (PST), spill-response personnel had recovered all of the spill and cleaned the affected area. Regulators have been notified and we do not anticipate any significant impacts to the environment. Also informed were representatives of the Haisla Nation and District of Kitimat.
An internal investigation to the cause of the incident is underway.
